How a match goes
-
0:00–0:30Prep
Thirty seconds and 100 gold, and nobody can send yet. Troops will walk the shortest open path from the gate to the exit. You can’t block it, only bend it, and every tile you add to that walk is more time under fire. How to build a maze
-
0:30–7:00The match
Most of the game. Every troop you send raises your income for good, so you’re always splitting gold between your maze and your army. The Send tray reads your target’s maze: this one is short on air defense. Camp makes your troops tougher, and the Forge unlocks upgrades, capstones and Masteries.
-
7:00 onOnslaught
Every troop sent from now on has 50% more health, on top of seven minutes of growing income. The mazes fill up and lives start to go. It runs until one player is left, usually a few minutes later.
Five towers
Each tower has two upgrade paths, each path ends in a capstone, and every capstone can be mastered. One tap upgrades every tower of a type at once.
- ArcherLong reach and hits air. Sees Stealth once it buys Detection.
- BrawlerThe cheapest tower, so the cheapest wall. Ground only.
- TeslaLightning that jumps between troops. Sees Stealth on its own.
- MageChooses Frost to slow and freeze, or Fire to burn.
- CannonTakes two tiles. Splash damage for Swarms and Armored.
Six troops
Every troop comes in six tiers. The Roman numeral over its health bar shows the tier, and the Send tray tells you what your target’s maze is weak to.
- GruntThe best income for its gold.
- RunnerNearly twice as fast. Punishes short mazes.
- SwarmThree small bodies per send.
- ArmoredShrugs off arrows and fists. A leak costs two lives.
- FlyerFlies straight over your maze.
- StealthOnly towers that detect it can hit it.
Ten Masteries
Forge rank three unlocks a Mastery for every capstoned tower: one 1,200-gold upgrade, bought from the same pop-up, that roughly doubles what its capstone already does. A mastered tower takes a Champion form you can spot from across the board.
SkypiercerArcher. Double damage to Flyers, and more range.
BarrageArcher. Every fourth volley hits every troop in range.
ShockwaveBrawler. Every third swing stuns.
GiantslayerBrawler. Hits big troops up to twice as hard.
SkyarcTesla. Double damage to Flyers.
Arc LockTesla. Roots the first troop it zaps.
PermafrostFrost Mage. Freezes more often, and for longer.
InfernoFire Mage. Dragon Breath scorches eight troops, not four.
CarpetCannon. Fires two shells.
Wrecking BallCannon. Hits big troops up to twice as hard and shreds armor.
